Chottanikkara Temple

Chottanikara Temple is dedicated to 'Adi Parashakti' or the Mother Goddess who is the trinity of Devi Lakshmi (Goddess of wealth, fortune, joy and prosperity), Devi Parvathi (Goddess of fertility, love, marriage, children, divine strength and power) and Devi Saraswathy (Goddess of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom, and learning).
The temple is one of the most renowned temples in the state of Kerala. The temple complex consists of shrines for several other deities like Kizhkavu Bhagavati, Shiva, Sashta, Ganapati, Naga and Upa-Devas. The temple complex is considered to be very divine and sacred.
In the morning, Goddess Saraswathy is worshipped (the idol is draped in white). In the noon, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped(the idol is draped in red) and in the evening, Goddess Durga is worshipped( the idol is draped in blue).
During Feb/March comes the most important festival in the temple; 'Makom Thozhal'. It is believed that Bhagavathy will appear before her devotees on this day and a visit to the temple brings peace and relief to all devotees. Bhadrakali, the fierce form of Adi Parashakti is the main deity in the Kizhkavu temple. People with mental illness come here to pray for recovery. Evil spirits are also believed to be exorcised from devotees.
